Homogeneous Nucleation in a Laminar-Flow Diffusion Chamber - The Effect of Temperature and Carrier Gas on Dibutyl Phthalate Vapor Nucleation Rate at High Supersaturations
The homogeneous nucleation rates of dibutyl phthalate vapor were investigated. The measurements using a laminar flow diffusion chamber technique were performed as a function of temperature in a wide range of supersaturations providing a large data set for future theoretical investigations. Tables of the homogeneous nucleation rates in the range from 10(1) cm(-3) s(-1) to 4.5x10(7) cm(-3) as a function of saturation ratio in the temperature range from 246 K to 317 K are presented. The nucleation rates were compared to different theoretical predictions. The effect of carrier gas on nucleation rate was investigated and no significant dependence was found. From the slopes of the isothermal nucleation rate versus saturation ratio curves the number of molecules in the critical cluster were determined. Comparison to Gibbs-Thomson equation is presented.
