Synthesis and Toughness Improvement of Aminoethylpiperazine Terminated Polydimethylsiloxane-Tetrafunctional Epoxy Resin Network
Siloxane-epoxy copolymers having terminal epoxy group were prepared by reacting aminoethylpiperazine terminated polydimethylsiloxane (AEPDMS) prepolymer with EPON HPT 1071 epoxy resin. The AEPDMS-EPON HPT 1071 copolyner was then cured with EPON HPT 1061. Fracture toughness, KIC of the AEPDMS-EPON HPT 1071 copolymer network increased with increasing molecular weight of the siloxane block. Scanning electron micrographs of the cracked surface show that AEPDMS-EPON copolymer network with higher molecular weight siloxane had more uniform distribution of PDMS domain.
