Optimization of press extraction of oil from erimado kernels, Ricinodendron heudelotii Pierre ex Pax
The modelisation of oil extraction by pressing of Ricinodendron heudelotii kernels has been realised. A central composite design was used and mathematical models are developed by multiple regression test. Response surface methodology was Used to explain the results. The extraction rate and the physicochemical quality oil extracted were determined. Results showed that treatment temperature and duration have a significant influence (p < 0.05) on responses measured. Maximum oil extraction rate of 72.6% was recorded for a heating temperature of 90degreesC for 90 min by humid way, whereas by dry way, it was 40.70% and 40.75% for a heating at 90degreesC for 120 min and 94degreesC for 90 min respectively. Despite, the increase of various oil quality parameters, the remained within prescribed limits for virgin oils. All the mathematical models developed exhibited good regression coefficients (R-2 > 0.75). (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
