Radiation-Induced Graft Copolymerization of Mixture of Acrylic Acind and Acrylonitrile onto Polypropylene Film
Graft copolymerization of mixtures of acrylic acid (AA) and acrylonitrile (AN) onto preirradiated polypropylene (PP) film was studied. The effects of solvents, radiation dose, reaction time, reaction temperature, additives, and co-monomer composition on the grafting yields were investigated. The reactivity ratios under different grafting condition such as a monomer composition, the type of solvent and the presence of additives were examined. The extent of grafting was found to increase with increasing radiation dose, reaction temperature, and composition of AA. In the mixture of watermethanol as the solvent, the total grafting yield increased with increasing water content, while the proportion of acrylonitrile in the copolymer decreased. The content of acrylonitrile in the copolymer increased with increasing AN composition in the feed and sulfuric acid concentration as an additive.
