Phase Behavior and Hydrogen Bonding in Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcoho)/Poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) Blends
The miscibility of poly (ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) (EVOH) with poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)(PVP) was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. When the content of vinyl alcohol repeating unit in EVOH was 57 or 45 mol%, the EVOH/PVP blends had the miscibility showing single Tg. In these iscible blends, the hydrogen bonds of both hydroxyl and carbonyl band were enhanced upon blending. However, when the content of vinyl aalcohol repeating unit in EVOH was 18 or 10mol%, the EVOH?PVP blends showed phase separation behavior, and the degree of hydrogen bond of hydroxyl group was reduced upon blending.
