Synthesis of Fluorinated Non-Ionic Surfactant
The fluorinated surfactants have been attracted particular attention in many industrial products and processes due to their superior characteristics and performance both in aqueous and organic solution than hydrocarbon surfactants such as chemical and thermal stabilities, extremely low surface tension, etc. In this work, the scale-up process for the manufacturing of non ionic fluorinated surfactant of ethoxylates of perfluoroalcohol was developed. The addition of ethylene oxide to perfluoroalcohol under basic catalyst of BF3 etherates was done with mild reaction condition of ca. 55℃. The obtained surfactants(Fluon-KL series) showed performance in lowering the surface tension in aqueous solution. The synthesis method, analysis of intermediates, and performance test will be described.
