Preparation of PET Using Homogeneous Catalysts (Ⅰ)-Effect of Stabilized Sb2O3 Glycol with BHPP Catalyst
E-mail:
Polyethylene terephthalate(PET) was synthesized using a homogeneous catalyst of 4wt% Sb2O3 solution dissolved in ethylene glycol(EG) with 2,2-bis-{4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl propane}(BHPP). The reaction behavior during the polymerization and the characteristics of polymerized PETs were studied. Other properties depending on the amounts of catalyst (400, 300, and 200 ppm) without thermal stabilizer were investigated. In the study of reaction kinetics. the polycondensation reaction rate in the early state using homogeneous catalysts of 400 and 300 ppm was faster than that using Sb2O3 power catalyst. In order to obtain the PET with inherent viscosity (I.V.) of 0.65 dL/g, a considerably shorter time is required using the homogeneous catalysts than using Sb2O3 power catalyst.
