Synthesis and Environmental Applications of BaPb1-xSbxO3 Solid Solutions
Perovskite oxides of the BaPb1-xSbxO3 family, with x = 0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 were prepared via ceramic route. The chemical, structural, morphological and electrochemical characterization of the different materials was performed. All the oxides present a perovskite-like structure. The crystallite size and the unit cell volume decrease with the increase of Sb content in the lattice. BaPbO3 presented the lowest relative roughness factor and BaPb0.7Sb0.3O3 the highest one. However, the variation of this parameter is not linear with Sb content. These oxides were used as anodes in the oxidation of the Direct Red 80 dye, at applied current densities of 5.0 and 7.5 mA cm(-2). All the materials have promoted the complete color removal of the dye solutions, being the highest chemical oxygen demand removal rate obtained with the BaPbO3 perovskite. There is a partial change in the degradation mechanism when part of the Pb content of the BaPbO3 perovskite is substituted by Sb. (C) 2014 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
