Excess-Enthalpies and Volumes for (Carbon-Dioxide Plus Ethane) at T=291.6 K, Close to the Minimum in the Critical Locus
A continuous flow-mixing calorimeter connected in series with a vibrating tube densimeter has been used to measure the excess molar enthalpy H-m(E) and the excess molar volume VE,of {xCO(2) + (1 - x)C2H6} at the temperature 219.6 K and at the pressures (3.10, 4.00, 4.88, 5.40, 5.60, 5.85, and 6.20) MPa. The temperature 291.6 K is 0.5 K above the minimum in the critical locus of the mixture. The measurements at p = 3.10 MPa are in the gas-phase region, those at p = 6.20 MPa are in the supercritical region, and the remainder cross the gaseous, two-phase, and liquid regions. The estimated uncertainty on the H-m(E) measurements is +/-2 per cent, while that on the V-m(E) measurements is +/-4 per cent. The shapes of the excess function curves are well reproduced by the Patel-Teja equation of state using k(12) = 0.1325 in the combining rule a(12) = (1 - k(12))(a(11)a(22))(1/2).
