Hybrid experimental/numerical technique for determination of residual stresses in inhomogeneous cylinders
Residual stresses in the middle zone of a long multilayered cylinder can be determined experimentally using layer growing/removing method. In this paper the finite element code ANSYS is applied for computing the components of residual stress in the end zone of the multilayered cylinder from initial stresses in the middle zone from strain measurements on the free surface or from X-ray diffraction measurements on the cylinder's moving surface. An example of application is presented.
