Residual stresses in an AA6082 shrink-fit thermoplastic junction
Neutron diffraction has been used to investigate the residual stress state induced by thermoplastic procedure for joining an AA6082 aluminium alloy disc-ring system. Measurements have been carried out at LLB - Saclay (France). Results show a reduction by a factor 3 in the hoop stress, with respect to thermoelastic shrink-fitting, and the appearence of a compressive state in the radial and axial directions. Interpretation of results is discussed also in the light of FEM simulations.
