Speeds of Sound and Isentropic Compressibilities of (Xch(3)O(CH2)(2)Oh+(1-X)H(CH2)(V)(Och2Ch2)(2)Oh) (V=1, 2, and 4) at the Temperature 298.15 K
The speed of sound u has been obtained at a frequency of 4 MHz in {xCH(3)O(CH2)(2)OH + (1 - x)H(CH2)(v)(OCH2CH2)(2)OH} for v = 1, 2, and 4 over the whole range of x at T = 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure, using a NUSONIC velocimeter based on the sing-around technique. The excess molar volumes were taken from a previous paper and combined with the measured values of the ultrasonic speeds to give estimates of the product K-s,K-m of the molar volume and the isentropic compressibility k(s), and the excess quantity K-s,m(E). The deviations of the speeds of sound u(D) were compared with the mixing function delta u calculated in the paper. The behaviour of u, u(D), delta u, and K-s,m(E), With composition and number of carbon atoms in the aliphatic chain of the alkoxyethanol is discussed.
