Temperature and irradiation effects on positronium formation in polycarbonate
Positron annihilation lifetime spectra were measured for polycarbonate as a function of temperature and measuring time. Free radicals and trapped electrons were introduced by positron irradiation at room temperature and low temperature, respectively. Free radicals prohibited the formation of positronium (Ps), while the trapped electrons enhanced the Ps formation. A new transition was observed at 230K, which was attributed to the brittle ductile transition.
