Atomic-scale vacuities and age of obsidians
Positron annihilation spectroscopy has been applied to a study of atomic-scale vacuities in samples of rhyolite obsidian coming from Canary Islands and Jamez Montains in USA. The results show that positronium atoms reveal vacuities inside the samples of obsidian formed at least I million years ago and a concentration of the vacuities increases with the age of the specimen up to about 10 million years.
