Effect of hydrogen on the magnetocrystalline anisotropy and magnetic phase transitions of RFe11Ti single crystals
A systematic investigation of the intrinsic magnetic properties of RFe11TiH (x=0, 1) single crystal has been performed by means of torque and pendulum magnetometery techniques and high-field magnetization measurements. The magnetization and magnetic anisotropy fields of the iron sublattice are determined for the Y and Lu compounds. A complex temperature dependence of spin structure was observed for DyFe11Ti, TbFe11Ti, NdFe11Ti and ErFe11Ti. Marked changes of the main magnetic properties of the RFe11Ti compounds are induced by hydrogen insertion. The analysis of the temperature dependence of the experimental torque curves for RFe11Ti and RFe11TiH1-delta single crystals were used to obtain magnetic phase diagrams. Among them the SmFe11TiH1-delta compound seemed to be the most potentially useful candidate for high-quality permanent magnets.
