Damping of superelastic NiTi-alloys under torsional loading
One of the remarkable properties of shape memory alloys (SMA) is their high damping capacity in the martensitic state as well as during superelastic loading. Furthermore, NiTi-alloys tolerate high stresses and thus can be used as structural materials. The combination of these characteristic properties provides a lot of opportunities for technical applications. This paper presents some experimental results on the damping behavior of NiTi-rods and the influence of cycling on the superelastic effect.
