The effect of cold-work texture on the superelastic characteristics of nitinol sheet
This paper studies superelasticity and other mechanical properties of nitinol sheet as a function of tensile test angle from the rolling direction. The data show anisotropy in superelasticity. Transformation strain of nitinol sheet was greatest at an angle between 22.5degrees and 45degrees from the rolling direction and was smallest in the transverse direction. The plateau stress for inducing martensite and the ultimate tensile stress increased with increasing angle between the tensile testing direction and the rolling direction. This indicates different physical characteristics for varying crystallite orientations in textured, cold worked nitinol.
