Microstructural investigation of TiPdNi alloy under loading-unloading cycling conditions
Ti50.6Pd30Ni19.4 alloy has been prepared to investigate the microstructure by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and optical microscope. It was found that the fracture surface is typical of brittle failure for all the specimens at different loading conditions. Loading history affects the appearance of the river pattern and cleavage facet on the fracture surfaces but can not change the brittle nature. The shape of crystal grains changed after loading-unloading cycling, and the room temperature martensite was confirmed to be of B19 structure.
