Control of microstructures and textures in high purity Al for advanced, high efficiency electrolytic capacitor
A new process to produce high purity Al foils for advanced, high efficiency electrolytic capacitor is proposed. Hot bands of high purity Al is subjected to a pretreatment, consisting of 15 to 30 % cold rolling and annealing at 450 degreesC for 30 min. Through this, very strong {100}<001> initial textures are obtained. They are then cold rolled 98 %. Since {100}<001>cube bands still remaining after this colds rolling is abundant in these materials, also nucleation of {100}<001> recrystallized grains should occur very frequently on subsequent annealing. In fact, on annealing at 450 degreesC for 30 min, very strong {100}<001> textures have been obtained. Although this process requires further modifications and refinements to obtain {100}<001> intensities comparable to those of the current commercial products, failures such as wrinkling and breaks of thin foils during partial annealing and additional cold rolling in the current production process can be avoided.
