Piezospectroscopic study of residual stresses in ZrO(2)/Al(2)O(3) composites
The residual stresses were studied in Ce-ZrO(2)/Al(2)O(3) composites produced via typical ceramic route. The luminescence of the R-lines was used to determine the compressive stresses in Al(2)O(3). Linear relation between Raman line position of alpha Al(2)O(3) and the R(2) line was found. Raman spectra were measured to determine the tensile stresses in t-ZrO(2). A linear dependence between the t-ZrO(2) Raman line shift and those of the Al(2)O(3) R(2)-line luminescence for all Raman lines of zirconia was observed in the compression range introduced into composite samples by Vickers indentation. Due to this dependence a new method for determining piezospectroscopic coefficient of t-ZrO(2) is suggested.
