Can we relate the FCC rolling texture transition to cross slip?
In 1968 one of the present authors made a crude estimate of the activation energy for the fcc rolling texture transition on the basis of the strain-rate and temperature dependence of the texture in Cu-5%Zn. This estimate is refined, resulting in an activation energy of 0.70eV+/-0.01eV. A recently deter-mined activation energy for cross slip derived from atomistic modelling is modified in accordance with the stress level during texture formation, leading to an activation energy of similar to0.75eV. The obvious conclusion is that the texture transition is governed by cross slip.
