Simulation of texture evolution during wire drawing of BSCCO superconductors
Conducting properties are highly anisotropic in high temperature superconducting oxides such as Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu oxides. They largely depend on the degree of alignment of the superconducting crystallographic planes with the direction of the current. We are particularly interested in the modeling and simulation of the wire drawing of BSCCO 2223 superconductors. In this work, we have simulated the deformation behavior and texture evolution during the drawing process of this superconducting compound. We analyzed texture gradient in the wire and the effects of the drawing parameters on these textures. These simulations are made possible by combining finite element analysis with micromechanical modeling of plasticity in BSCCO polycrystals. Texture results are discussed with regard to the efficiency of the wire as a superconductor.
