New carbon materials as a support for oxygen electrode in fuel cells
Porous C/C (carbonised resin/carbon fibre) composite, with a mass fraction of carbonised resin of 50% or 28%, surface doped with Pt, Ag, CoO, La2NiO4+La2CoO4 and La2NiO4+La2CoO4+Pt was used as a support of oxygen electrode in alkaline solution. The effects of various dopants on the oxygen reduction rate were compared on the basis 2 of discharge behaviour of an air/zinc couple. A maximum power density amounting to 40 mV/cm(2) was observed for the C/C composite with the resin fraction of 50%, catalyzed by an oxide mixture La2NiO4 + La2CoO4.
