This paper is mainly concerned about the feasibility to obtain the thixotropic structure as-cast AZ91D Mg alloy in the reheated semisolid state. Of equal importance is the possibility to control the thixotropic structure during partial remelting, which would optimise the critical flow behaviour of semisolid AZ91D Mg alloy and the resultant properties of final thixoformed objects.
