Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) has been an attractive method of producing advanced materials, such as blocks or powders of ceramics, intermetallic compounds, composites and cermets. In this paper, thermite reaction which involve metallo-thermite reduction had been employed in the ceramic coating. The microstructure of the coating exhibits the FGMs structure, which strengthened the linkage between the steel tube and ceramic coating.
