Using the adjoint equation method to optimize FGM thermoelastic structures
The paper is concerned with the problem of optimizing the composition profile of thermoelastic structures made of functionally graded materials using gradient-based approaches. The problem is posed as an optimal control problem and the derivative of its objective functional is derived using the adjoint equations. The derivative information is made use of to optimize the composition profile of the functionally graded interlayer of a three-layer cylinder.
