Development of properties during secondary ageing of aluminium alloys
Secondary hardening at 65degreesC has been studied in a range of aluminium alloys that were initially aged for short times at elevated temperatures. All alloys were found to strengthen to levels close to, and occasionally exceeding those obtained using conventional T6 tempers. In specific alloys, fracture toughness was improved by as much as 40%.
