In this paper, mechanical properties expected to be improved through grain refinement including tensile strength, formability, toughness, anti-fatigue property, weldability and super plasticity will be overviewed in terms of its application to commercial steels. As an example of commercial steels, the methods to obtain fine microstructure in hot rolled sheet steel and high carbon steel, and the benefit of grain refinement are focused.
