Focused optic irradiation of xenon arc lamp ensures surface heating up to melting point of steels. Thus this heating method is promising for local surface heat treatment of high speed steels. It was shown that the application of the optic irradiation heating for quenching of W-Mo-Cr-V high speed steel provided high properties of sub-surface zone of 2-7 mm in depth.
