Distribution of B(OH)(3) between water and steam at high temperatures
The equilibrium concentrations of B(OH)(3) in the coexisting phases of water and steam were measured over the temperature range 452.3 K to 643.7 K. These data were used to calculate the distribution constant K-D of B(OH)(3). Making use of Krichevskii's function, the distribution results were compared with those reported for the partial molar volume of aqueous solutions of B(OH)(3) at infinite dilution. The agreement is satisfactory, confirming that the two sets of data are thermodynamically consistent and also showing some advantages of the use of the Krichevskii function to describe the thermodynamic behaviour of dilute binary solutions.
