Modeling of texture and texture-related properties during the thermo-mechanical processing of aluminum sheets
The prediction of the mechanical properties of a metallic sheet requires knowledge on its microstructure and crystallographic texture. During the thernio-mechanical processing of Al sheet in commercial production lines the material experiences a complex history of temperature, time and strain paths. Thus, for a comprehensive through-process modeling of texture evolution during the production of Al sheet, the respective approaches for simulating rolling and recrystallization textures have to be combined. The potential of such coupled simulations is illustrated by way of the thermo-mechanical processing of AA 3104 can body stock. In particular, the differences in texture and texture-related properties between production on a reversible rolling mill and a high-speed tandem line are explored.
