An investigation on machinability and application of Board Materials (BM) in low volume production of sheet metals
This paper presents a comparison of properties and machinability characteristics of different materials (Board Materials, Kirksite, Aluminum and cast iron) when they are used as die materials in low volume production of sheet metal products. Important parameters such as surface finish and cutting tool life and machining time are measured and compared in a series of experimental work. Board Materials are found to be an excellent choice when they are used as tool material in die making. These materials have good machinability characteristics and formed easily. This makes them a good candidate for modeling and prototyping applications.
