Double bladed effect of Re on high-temperature oxidation and hotcorrosion of nickel-based superalloys
It is well known so far that Re is an effective element for increasing both creep strength and hot corrosion resistance of nickel-based superalloys. However, it is found that the oxidation resistance decreased clearly with increasing Re content. The alloys having a Re/Al ratio (mol%) up to 0.1 exhibited very small weight changes during the oxidation tests, so the Re/Al ratio was indeed a good indication for the design of superalloys having a good combination of high temperature creep strength and good surface stability at high temperatures.
