Cost reduction in titanium production and processing
The prospects for cost reduction in the supply and use of titanium alloys are discussed. Topics include new developments in primary metal extraction, alloy melting and ingot casting technology and new near-net-shape fabrication technologies. The impact of these developments on the affordability of titanium in the medium to long term is analysed, and the potential impact of these changes on the titanium market discussed. An exciting new UK developed titanium alloy production process called Electro-Deoxidation (EDO) will be described in detail and its potential is discussed.
