Excess molar volumes, speeds of sound and isentropic compressibilities of (1,4-dioxane plus trichloromethane, or tetrachloromethane, or 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane, or 1,1,1-trichloroethane) at T=293.15 K
Excess molar volumes V-m(E) and speeds of sound u were measured for {1,4-dioxane (C4H8O2) + trichloromethane (CHCl3), or tetrachloromethane (CCl4), or 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (CHCl2CHCl2) or 1,1,1-trichloroethane (CCl3CH3)} at T = 293.15 K. The values of u for the various mixtures were used to calculate the apparent excess speeds of sound Delta u and the isentropic compressibilities kappa(S). The excess isentropic compressibilities kappa(S)(E) have also been calculated from the values of kappa(S). The values of V-m(E) and kappa(S)(E) have been found to be negative throughout the entire composition range for the mixtures of C4H8O2 and CCl4, or CHCl2CHCl2 or CCl3CH3. For {xC(4)H(8)O(2) + (1-x)CHCl3}, V-m(E) has been found to be negative at lower values of x, and positive at high x values with an inversion of sign occurring at x approximate to 0.85, whereas the kappa(S)(E) for this system has been found to be positive at low x values and negative at high x values with an inversion of sign occurring at x approximate to 0.65. The values of Delta u, V-m(E) and kappa(S)(E) have been fitted to a Redlich-Kister type equation.
