Subsurface zones in aluminium detected by positron lifetime spectroscopy
In the paper we present positron annihilation studies of the subsurface zones created below an aluminium surface exposed to a sliding or compression process. In both cases the zones exhibit different properties but the common feature is the fact that the zones contain mainly single vacancies and vacancies located on the dislocation lines. The total depth of the zones depends on the applied load in the case of sliding but not in the case of compression.
