Bioinspired macromollecular actuators
Some of the latest findings and research avenues in the realisation of bioinspired macromolecular actuators are highlighted in this paper. In particular, available technologies suitable for micro-scale devices (conducting polymers and carbon nanotubes) and macro-scale devices (dielectric elastomers) are separately analysed, with particular emphasis to the design of bioinspired actuating configurations and to the related main breakthroughs still needed.
