Oxidation resistant silicide coatings for Nb-ss/Nb5Si3 in-situ composites
Oxidation protective silicide coatings for the new Nbss/Nb5Si3 in-situ composites were prepared by molten salt method at 900 degrees C. The experiment results indicated that the majority phase in the coating was NbSi2. More Nb5Si3 was formed at the interface between the substrate and NbSi2 layer during the oxidation. The oxidation resistance of the composites was improved by the coating, significantly. The improvement in the oxidation resistance of the composites maybe mainly attributed to the formation of large amount of SiO2 and Al2O3 on surface of coating.
