Synthesis of composite metal hydride alloy of A(2)B and AB2 type by mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering
Composites consisting of Mg2Ni and ZrV0.5Ni1.5 were synthesized by mechanical alloying(MA) and Spark Plasma Sintering(SPS). Mg2Ni, a major component having good hydrogen storage properties, and ZrV0.5Ni1.5, a minor component having good corrosion resistance, were selected. The composites were identified using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical behavior was measured with a Maccor series 4000. It was observed that the surface of the Mg2Ni electrode was modified by ZrV0.5Ni1.5 secondary phase. As a result, the cycle life of the Mg2Ni composite was improved.
