In the present paper, some tech-economic issues related to the production and application of Mg castings are discussed. It has been highlighted that a focus on the applications where advantageous processing and physical properties of Mg alloys can be fully explored is a pre-requirement for promoting the use of Mg castings. A balanced analysis of the technical and investment requirements for product quality insurance, functionality, feasibility of processing techniques, and facilities cost during decision making is necessary to ensure the investment efficiency and profitability of Mg casting.
