Texture evaluation of titanium aerospace alloy ti 834 using hot axisymmetric compression tests
The effect of hot working strain on texture evolution in the near-alpha titanium alloy Ti 834 has been investigated using hot axisymmetric compression testing and EBSD. Testing was undertaken sub beta transus with 22% alpha, which upon cooling produced a bimodal microstructure of primary a in a matrix of transformed beta. Two distinct deformation induced texture components were identified: i) transverse [(0001)vertical bar vertical bar compression direction] and ii) off-basal [(0001);approximate to perpendicular to compression direction]. Orientation image mapping was then used to identify the microstructure associated with each texture component. The transverse texture is associated with the transformed beta and the off-basal component is the deformation texture of the primary alpha.
