The equilibria of aqueous solutions in contact with gamma-Al2O3 are investigated using atomic absorption spectroscopy and potentiometric techniques. A model is proposed to describe the system, taking into account the dissolution of the oxide and the influence of carbon dioxide. It allows the calculation of the equilibrium of the system from the masses of the mixed substances. The calculated equilibria agree well. with the experimental results.
