Preparation and Characteristics of Titanium-Modified Silicon Carbide Fiber
A higher fraction of molecular weight of polycarbosilane and titanium alkoxide was used to synthesize polytitanocarbosilane(PTC) as a precursor of titanium modified silicon carbide fiber, The PTC gel fiber was prepared from precursor PTC at room temperature. By firing the PTC gel fiber at 1300℃ for 1hour in the nitrogen atmosphere, the fiber was thermally converted into a titanium modified silicon carbide fiber that has higher mechanical strength and better oxidation resistance at higher temperatures. The average composition of titanium-modified silicon carbide fibers was silicon (50.1%), titanium (1.9%), carbon (29.9%)and oxygen (18.1%). The titanium-modified silicon carbide fibers observed by SEM were uniformly of 10-13㎛ of circular shape and smooth with no pits or cracks on the fiber surface.
