Orientational Order in Sediments of Colloidal Rods
Sediments of colloidal boehmite rods have been studied with polarization microscopy to investigate the presence (and origin) of orientational order. We find, among other structures, a "frozen" nematic texture as well as a structure which resembles the "oriented glass" found in recent simulations with non-Brownian ellipsoids.
