Hydropower potential on Zimbabwe's major dams
A long-term annual energy delivery study, to determine the hydropower potential on Zimbabwe's major dams was done on the sites named herein. The results, which are detailed inside show that all the sites are good for power developments. The sites have been ranked having one with the biggest potential at the top and the least at the end. A determination of turbine types and settings indicate the general application of either Francis or Kaplan turbines in all cases. Information was also collected on the geology of the sites, environmental and socio/economic impact of the projects, which shows to be very positive for the development of the power projects on the sites. The results though founded on a number of simplified assumptions provide a sound basis for a thorough economic evaluation of the individual potential projects sites.
