Synthesis of a Novel AB2 Monomer with a Stilbene Chromophore and Its Polymerization Study via the Heck Reaction
E-mail:
A novel monomer 1 containing a stilbene chromophore was synthesized efficiently in four steps starting from 4-acetoxystyrene and 4-bromobenzaldehyde. The polymer product poly-1 was prepared from the polycondensation of monomer 1 using the Heck reaction and showed λmax at 508 nm in the photoluminescence spectrum. Variation of the reaction conditions was carried out in order to improve the homogeneity of the reaction mixture. The polymer produced with the optimal conditions showed Mw = 12,100 with the polydispersity index of 1.85.
