Customized solid supports for small-molecule synthesis: effects of crosslinking structure and degree
Divinylbenzene (DVB) and diethylene glycol bis(4-vinylbenzyl) ether (DEG) were used as crosslinkers in the preparation of four resins of mixed micro- and macroporous character and differing polarity to examine the effects of crosslinker structure and macroporosity. The Suzuki coupling process was used as the probe reaction for this purpose. Results with 2% DVB. 2% DEG, 5% DEG and 15% DEG indicate that the DEG-crosslinked resins are somewhat better suited for this process. although the degree of crosslinking appears to have only minimal effect of degree of conversion to product.
