Effect of Xylanse Pre- and Post-Treatment on Oxygen Bleaching of Oak Kraft Pulp
E-mail:
The effectiveness of xylanase pre-treatment (XO) and post-treatment (OX) in the oxygen bleaching of Oak kraft pulp was investigated. With the xylanase treatment the brightness increased, however, there was only a numerically difference in the brightness gains between the OX and XO sequences. With the xylanase treatment, the chemical requirements for bleaching decreased at the same brightness. The reduction of the bleaching chemicals was higher in the XO sequence than in the OX sequence. Following the xylanase treatment, the viscosity increased and the brightness stability was considerably improved. However, there was no difference in the effectiveness between the XO and OX sequences. The physical properties were similar for the totally chlorine free (TCF) bleaching sequence with and without the xylanase treatments. However, in the OC/DEoD and OC/DEopD sequences, the physical properties decreased with the xylanase treatment. There was no difference in the physical properties between the XO and OX sequences. The COD, BOD and color of the bleaching effluents increased slighty with the xylanase treatment. However, the environmental impact of the COD end-load discharge decreased.
