Curing behavior of polyurethane as a binder for polymer-bonded explosives
E-mail:
The kinetics of the urethane-forming cure reaction of hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) in presence of triphenyl bismuth (TPB) catalyst was investigated in the bulk state by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rheometry. The activation energies were evaluated using the Kissinger method and the Ozawa method with multiple heating rates. Chemorheology in this system at isothermal condition was also studied and the value of activation energy was in agreement with those obtained from DSC study. The master curve was constructed to estimate the essential information such as the pot-life duringmanufacturing polymer-bonded explosive (PBX) through the knowledge of gel times at given temperatures.
