The multiple-state character of gold deposited onto a smooth Pt surface has been demonstrated but this phenomenon cannot be observed in the case of the platinized Pt electrode. Two kinds of adsorbed species, bulk deposit and presumably adsorbed AuCl, have been detected. Interaction between gold and oxygen adsorption has been observed.
